CONNECTIONS
Global Health Symposium 2025
Texas Biomed’s Global Health Symposium brought together leaders from across sectors to share community-driven and science-based approaches to ensure a healthier future for all.
Texas Biomed’s 2025 Global Health Symposium (GHS) was the largest yet, with more than 70 local, national and international speakers taking the stage to discuss pressing global health issues, from current funding threats to the role of artificial intelligence, incorporating community perspectives into health programs and preparing for the next pandemic.
The two-day event featured former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., and Chelsea Clinton, DPhil, MPH, vice chair of the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Health Access Initiative. Both speakers addressed hundreds in attendance at the San Antonio Botanical Garden and online during the symposium March 27 and 28.
GHS is unlike most conferences in that it aims to attract participants from a wide range of sectors: business and philanthropy, government and industry, science and education. Through this weaving of experiences and perspectives, the symposium aims to inspire unusual ideas and partnerships that can spark significant advancements that will improve human health around the globe.

Stand4Science Award
Congratulations to Texas Biomed’s Stand4Science 2025 Award recipient: Lyda Hill Philanthropies. Texas Biomed President/CEO Larry Schlesinger presented the award at GHS to Matthew Crommett, Managing Director of LH Capital and Lyda Hill Philanthropies.
Texas Biomed began this honor three years ago to recognize a person, group or organization that has shown extraordinary leadership in championing the role of research and discovery in building a brighter future.
Lyda Hill Philanthropies is a true game changer for the life sciences in Texas and beyond. Through thoughtful investments, the organization has propelled significant scientific advancements in targeted therapies and early detection to improve patient outcomes. It has also supported women and girls in STEM fields, biotechnology startups and innovation hubs that help accelerate development of new therapies and diagnostic tools.
Founder Lyda Hill is known for saying she aims to change the world “by doing what others can’t do and won’t do.” She founded the largest travel agency in Dallas in the 1960s and soon branched out as entrepreneur with varied interests. She has now pledged to donate the entirety of her wealth to philanthropy and supporting science in her lifetime, especially in the state of Texas.
The Texas Biomed Stand4Science Award is a celebration of science. By shining a spotlight on visionaries like Lyda Hill who are taking risks and advocating for evidence-backed solutions to global challenges, Texas Biomed aims to inspire and sustain enthusiasm for the power of science to change lives.
